Hello, I own an Acer Windows 8.1 tablet purchased for about $200. The hardware isn’t very powerful, making smooth operation of Windows difficult. I’m looking for a lighter option like Android, Chrome OS, or Chromium OS. I only need to use Google services such as Play Books, Docs, Inbox, web browsing, YouTube, etc. Running a browser with Windows on this device is very slow and laggy. If anyone can guide me on installing a different operating system, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
You might find it better to avoid spending $250 on software for a $200 tablet. VMware Workstation could work, letting you run Android and other apps. It requires around 12 gigabytes of storage, so a larger SD card would be helpful if internal space is limited. You’d likely need Windows 7 or something similar to run it smoothly—though running Linux as the main OS might make things easier. If possible, using Linux as your primary system would let you enjoy Android and Linux tablets alongside Windows or Android versions via VMs.
