Hello, I need to find out how to enable the driver for Vega graphics on my Ryzen 3400G in Debian 9. I've tried some instructions, but the guide I found doesn't seem to work. :| Checking glx info, it shows OpenGL details from VMware, but it doesn't match what I expect.

Updating the kernel requires careful handling due to its complexity. I haven’t performed this myself, but I’ve used UKUU until it became costly. It’s mostly been done on Ubuntu, which shares similarities with Debian. Recovery is straightforward—it adds a boot option in GRUB allowing you to switch between the new and old kernels, making it simple to revert or correct issues.

Also, just a note: Are you running this on a VM? Activating the host graphics driver inside a virtual machine isn’t standard practice. Could you clarify your setup?

I attempt to turn on the driver for bar metal on the host system. My setup includes a deskmini A300 with Ryzen and Debian installed (upgraded from a Celeron 3565u mini PC without a full system install). I also have VMware running in Debian to host virtual machines. The driver isn't functioning properly in the main system.

Update the kernel to the most recent stable release. I encountered a similar problem with my 5700XT—driver functionality only worked after upgrading the kernel.

Thank you! I'll apply this approach during the next maintenance after the holidays Smile

Search Debian repos for updates—they often store them outside the primary repos to avoid breaking version stability. Updates require a newer kernel and possibly a backported hardware fix, plus newer Mesa packages.

I quit Debian (Debian 10 remains with 4.9 kernel). Now using Ubuntu LTS18 everything functions properly (with 5.x kernel).
