Hello, I need to connect my wireless Xbox 360 controllers to a Linux PC. The only adapters available seem to work only on Windows. Anyone here has experience with this setup? You can check the link provided for more details.

A user in the Amazon shared feedback about the product not functioning with Raspberry Pi or Steam Deck, suggesting it may not be optimized for Linux. They mentioned possible driver solutions but noted uncertainty due to lack of access to the device. It appears Ubuntu supports plug-and-play, though the specific distribution remains unclear.

I acquired it but never used it on Linux, planning to test now. Manjaro KDE, LTS Kernel: 5.15.120-1. After connecting, I noticed the receiver appears with ID 045e:0291 Microsoft Corp. Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows. It maps to /dev/input/js0 in lsusb and shows up in the Game Controller panel. I successfully played Dead Island Retro Revenge with it, and the buttons functioned correctly (A is A, etc.). Recently, I realized my receiver performs better on Linux than on Windows—on Windows I often have to manually install the driver via a link, whereas Linux offers a smoother plug-and-play experience. Overall, once recognized, it operates reliably without issues like disconnects or latency.

After sharing this, I bought the version shown above which is a fake replica. I also found an authentic OEM model. The OEM one automatically detects and sets up the driver, while the clone needs you to install it yourself. Both functioned well except for the installation part. Apart from that, they both performed okay. If anyone else reads this, I’d order an OEM one from eBay. I got mine used for 25 dollars, the clone cost 35 on Amazon and I had to return it. (If I’d bought it elsewhere I’d have kept it, but I think about Amazon.)

Purchased a clone around 5-6 years ago—similar item. Around $10 shipped from AliExpress. If the authentic version is available at a fair price, I’d choose it too.

You recently purchased a wireless adapter that works seamlessly on your Steam Deck, but on your Windows 11 system you need to install drivers each time you restart or power off the game.
