Instability in older graphics cards causes display problems.
Hello all, I am currently in a bit of pickle. For context, i have a old 2k monitor that only accepts a DVI D dual connection for the highest resolution, and i have been relying on a DP to DVI active converter. But a issue with that is, new Nvidia drivers simply doesn't work with it and i have to rely on drivers from 2021 for my 3070. So i thought to myself, i could just get a old gpu with DVI support that can go up to 2k and i bought a GT 705. When i plugged it in, it displayed ! but it has a static overlay over it(see attached), i attributed it as a fault of the card as i tested it on my other rig, so i bought a gt 710 in better condition, but it ended up having the same effect. I have a i5 12600k with a 3070, on a H670 asrcok board. Does anyone have any advice how i can overcome this problem. Thank you for reading.
Are you sure you need the latest GPU driver? A driver just two years old works perfectly for most games, except for the worst ones. DVI-D and DP are similar, but DP also includes an audio pinout. Any GPU from the nvidia 9xx series will likely run into problems since nvidia stopped supporting those cards in drivers starting September 21, 470. Do you really need to use a DVI monitor?
I don’t really need the latest drivers, but the new game won’t work with my existing ones. I also prefer not to waste money on a new 2K monitor. I’m looking for possible fixes for this issue.
It seems you already have an active dongle, so the next option might be a KVM switch configuration. I wouldn't recommend purchasing one unless you're certain you'll need it. You could try borrowing one from a friend instead. Unless you truly require it, it might not be worth it. Beyond modifying the NVIDIA drivers, I'm unsure why the setup isn't functioning properly. DVI should generally work fine as a digital connection without audio issues. It's possible the dP to dVI converter isn't operating correctly—it should switch pins accurately, but if not, there could be another problem.
