Hello, I own an older Intel i5 6600K and a Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard. I’m considering installing four sticks of this RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07R...UTF8&psc=1 Corsair VENGEANCELPX16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3600 (Pc4-28800) C181.35V Desktop Memory - Black. I ran my own compatibility check and it said the motherboard is fine, but the RAM maxes out at 3466MHz. I’m not sure if it will actually fit with my CPU. If it does, I think it will automatically slow things down unless I enable an XMP profile to boost performance. Could anyone give some advice on these matters? Also, I’m curious about whether 32GB is a good investment and what others think. Thanks for your help!
it will function properly, the iMC is solid at the 6600k, though anything above 2133 might be technically an overclock and isn't assured, but the iMC should manage it well. if you're buying a ready-made unit, consider a 3200 cl16 or a 3600 cl16 kit.

DDR4 memory comes in two common speeds: 2133 or 2400, with 2133 being the standard. When you connect it, the system will automatically use that setting. In the BIOS, enable XMP to fine-tune clock speed, timing, and voltage according to the RAM model you purchased. This is essentially a certified overclock that you simply activate. I support this approach; if you spot a 3200 option at a lower price, it’s worth considering. Speeds above 3200–3600 offer minimal gain and can strain the memory controller (IMC), which handles all the work. Higher speeds plus more sticks increase stress on the IMC. For most users, 3200 is sufficient. Also, could you tell me your current RAM capacity and rate? It might make sense to upgrade just one more stick if you already have a solid configuration.
Thanks for the responses. Your tips were really helpful. Right now I’m using a 16GB Kingston HyperX from around 2016, though I don’t know the exact speed—it might be around 2333 MHz. It’s hard to find another 16GB at the moment because it could be discontinued. I think upgrading the motherboard and CPU later this year would make sense, so I can install the new RAM when I get a chance. I’m planning to go with a Ryzen processor next time.
