Inquiry About Moving from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 Business
Hi,
I’m working with a charity client who is dealing with a complicated computer setup. They currently use Gmail Workspace to access their emails, and some mailboxes are quite large—over 15GB. They have Microsoft Business 365 Premium for free since they’re a nonprofit, and they’re interested in transferring everything to Microsoft. I think from the Microsoft Admin Centre, it should be possible to move the emails from Gmail into Microsoft, after which only the DNS servers need to be updated from the current Gmail ones to the new Microsoft DNS servers? Then I’d set up the desktop Outlook app to connect to the new Exchange server.
I found a guide for this migration here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/e...ti...-mailboxes
I’m wondering if I missed anything important. Also, there’s a note at the top of the page saying: “Effective from December 2022, the classic Exchange Admin Center will be deprecated for worldwide customers. Microsoft recommends using the new Exchange Admin Center, if not already doing so.”
Also, in step 5 it mentions that IMAP migration isn’t available for the new EAC.
The provided link to the migration guide functions correctly. The two EAC links (classic and new) direct users to login pages for Outlook and a Microsoft account. Excluding some collaboration between Google, Microsoft, and client charity, the migration must be carefully planned and carried out professionally. The main focus should be on preventing data loss—ensuring emails are not lost and can be recovered if necessary. Backups are essential. I recommend that the charity seek assistance from local IT firms to support the project. These companies could act as supervisors or offer valuable insights. The migration initiative should begin with a test migration batch, as suggested in Step 5.
