Hey everyone, just placed an order for a PSU extension kit. It arrived with only one 8-pin EPS power cable, but my motherboard has two such connections. Can I use just one for the CPU or do I need another EPS cable? My system specs are MSI B650-P Wi-Fi AMD 7600X, Kingston FURY Beast RGB 16GB 2x1TB, Crucial P3 Plus NVMe SSD XFX MERC RX 6750X. I won’t be overclocking the CPU, any advice would be appreciated.

We have a single 8-pin EPS cable that’s more than sufficient. It’s rated for 336 watts, while your 7600X draws hardly any of that power. I’ve used 1x8 EPS on my 7700X without any problems. The other 8-pin is mostly there just for extreme overclocking or a fun upgrade to make the board look better. It’s completely fine running with it.

Hello everyone, I'm really trying to understand this. @Hinjima you mentioned one 8-pin provides 336 watts, but I've seen it say up to 235 watts before. I searched online for official ratings but didn't find anything. The manuals of the motherboards, power supplies, and CPUs didn't help either. I'm planning to build a system with a 13600k next week, so having an 8-pin will definitely work. Still, I'm quite puzzled and wish you could explain more clearly. Thanks!

The 1x8pin EPS cable is designed for 235 / 336 watts. It’s actually built to handle more than that, but it’s not officially rated for continuous high loads. A single 8-pin can safely manage up to 28A or 336W, just avoid running it at full capacity all the time.
