You can swap the CPUs without changing the chipset or updating drivers. Just remove the old chipset and install the new Ryzen 9 5900x, then connect it to your ASUS TUF x570 Plus Wi-Fi motherboard.

Windows 7 has improved significantly in managing full MOTO replacements without requiring reinstallation. While it's recommended to still install chipset drivers manually from the mobo support site, the system should remain bootable using its default setup.

Are you just swapping the processor? No other changes? If yes, proceed right away. Clearing the CMOS is a standard step to reset everything to its default settings in the BIOS before installing drivers. That’s essentially all there is to it.

The simplest method is connecting a short circuit to the CLRTC pins using a screwdriver for a brief moment. These two pins are located in the lower right area of your board, right above the front panel connections and to the right of the four SATA ports. It functions as a standalone two-pin jumper labeled CLRTC. Another viable approach is removing the coin cell battery from the board after disconnecting the system, keeping the power button pressed for a few seconds to discharge it, allowing it to rest with the battery removed before reassembling everything.

You should find a tiny button on the back near where your peripherals connect. Press and hold it for about 20 seconds to restart it. The advantage is you won’t need to worry about resetting the essentials like your clock. If that doesn’t work or you lack a reset feature, this guide works well.

I've seen many boards featuring that small switch on the back, though not all of them. Previously, having a tiny component on the board PCB was typical for premium models, which is what I usually check for, but it's no longer popular. Asus generally doesn't include such "enthusiast" options on TUF boards, but it wouldn't hurt to explore since it offers a simple and fast solution.

When you reset CMOS, your system loses its saved settings but doesn’t necessarily require a full BIOS update. Clearing CMOS usually removes stored configurations, so you may need to reconfigure certain parameters. It can also reset device drivers, depending on the hardware and settings.

They won’t require any changes or reinstallation. All BIOS configurations revert to standard settings. BIOS operates separately from your operating system, so you’ll need to configure XMP and similar options manually.
