I shared this update from a previous message. Maybe it should have stayed in the original thread. Uncertain, but I posted it here since I didn’t get any responses. A quick poll: I bent two pins on my only USB3.0 header, which is a bit of a mess. Another board from my MSI mag mortar b660m LGA1700 DDR4 Wi-Fi just adds “max” to its name. It’s the same model but with an external clock chip (the one I initially thought I was buying) for an extra $80. A proper replacement would cost around $130, or about $175 if I buy a scalper version on eBay. This extra chip lets me overclock the whole board, including its components. It brings more heat and less control than a standard multiplier overclock, and it creates more issues. Still, I’m tempted to try it. If it breaks, I’ll need a new b660m motherboard. My case is great—it’s the best I’ve ever had. I’d prefer staying with it unless it’s mandatory. I’m considering one of the cheaper options, but I’m not sure what to choose. What do others think? I can’t afford a full replacement, but maybe there’s no other choice. Updated November 16, 2022 by Bombastinator

Based on what I gathered from your writing, the new more expensive model might lead to additional issues. If that’s the case, then it probably isn’t worth it. Personally, I prefer having fewer problems in my life. Regarding the bent pins, I’m not sure how severe the situation is—hopefully you can fix them.

Install a USB 3 add-in card featuring the required header. If positioning shifts the header beyond your reach, consider using an extension.

A solid observation. I’d need an upgrade, not just for the size but due to graphics card issues. A budget single-slot option would suffice. Just require the internal header—maybe remove the cover plate completely and secure it inside with foam tape. Around $20 if it fails. Possibly more serious than you think.
