I possess an ASRock Taichi X370 motherboard. I'm running a Ryzen 5 2600 with BIOS version 5.60. It looks like the manufacturer has released BIOS version 6.40 to support the new 3RD Gen AMD Ryzen XT processors (5000 series) on this board. That’s great news. I’m thinking about upgrading to the newer chips but skipping the 3000 series and some BIOS updates. I’m worried about how the upgrade process will affect my system. If I install the latest BIOS (6.40) for the new processors, can I start POSTing and turn on the system right after the update? Or will the update prevent me from booting until I install a different processor? Will I need to purchase a 3000 series chip temporarily during the update to complete it, so I can later swap it for the new 5000 series? This is my main question. The BIOS page for the X370 Taichi warns: “*ASRock does NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge CPUs are installed.”” for the 6.40 release. This makes me wonder if updating will stop the system from turning on unless a new processor is added, as stated.
The naming between Ryzen and Zen generations is confusing, yet there are no 5000-series XT chips. AMD has clearly said the X370 doesn’t receive 5000 support, suggesting a comparison between the third-gen Ryzen (3000-series) and the third-gen Zen (5000-series).

Without official backing it could be intriguing to observe which platforms will adopt Zen 3. AMD has declined support for these chips, yet if board partners decide to handle things independently, 300-series chipset compatibility might turn into a somewhat chaotic landscape for Ryzen 5000 support.
