Inquiring about assembling a new PC with the GPU first.
Ten years prior (2015) I compiled this: this PC has been my companion for a decade, I replaced the motherboard last year after its first version failed in the summer. This machine served as the foundation for rendering tasks, but the bottlenecks were the RTX 970 which lacks CUDA support and the gigabyte graphics card. Those who work with 3D need substantial RAM, especially for intricate models. However, this project ceased around 2018. I visited www.carlonarducci.com. Yet, to this day I haven’t renewed the 3D Studio Max, VRAY and teaching licenses.
Now I’m considering a different path:
the specifications are almost unchanged from ten years ago. My main concern is the GPU. I’ve seen many reviews, though I won’t rely heavily on it (I teach now). A high-performance PC would be ideal.
I don’t use this system for gaming. Video and 3D editing have been paused since before the pandemic, but they remain part of my expertise. The GPU options today are limited—mostly 4080 models, with very few 4080 FE units available. These are my top choices by price. I’d prefer something affordable without breaking the bank. I would need CUDA support if I want to reintroduce the software, and I value freedom, though I’ve shifted focus to teaching more basic subjects at school.
I would appreciate a chance to discuss this with experts. GREETINGS.
PSU: type, make, power rating, age, state (original, new, used, refurbished)
The age is shown, the condition is noted, the model appears in the image, and the process is clarified. Is the image visible?
I’d look for a newer CPU that’s not significantly more expensive. Can we get a 5070TI at a price lower than the 4080?
I’d skip the water cooling and opt for a decent air cooler instead.
I’d choose a 2TB drive if you can afford a 4TB one. You won’t regret having extra space. Set up a 200GB Windows partition, then use the rest on D.
And? The RTX 5000 Ada offers more CUDA cores than the 5080 and is built for the tasks you need, not just gaming GPUs. The 4000 has fewer CUDA cores than the 4080 but could still work better since it's meant for similar purposes.
