I've been using this keyboard for nearly a year and have relied on a USB 2.0 port with an adapter, since the difference isn't noticeable. It seems to perform identically. I've also noticed some warnings about compatibility issues in 2.0, but after installing software that claims it works on 2.0, I tested it as advertised. I'm concerned about the high polling rate of 8k in a USB 2.0 port—do you know if that's supported?
It's not a USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter but just a Type-C to Type-A converter. Many blue USB 3.0 Type-A ports are available.
The difference won't matter since even the fastest typist transfers relatively little data.
Regardless of how quickly the USB controller detects changes, it must pause the CPU to signal updates, and this depends on CPU speed (the test indicated up to 17% CPU usage at 8,000Hz).
You'd think USB speeds would reduce latency compared to Ethernet where higher speeds lower delay, but USB is constrained by software drivers. This means 5, 10, 20, or 40Gbit still show similar latency to 480Mbit.
This explains why high-polling keyboard mice aren't significantly faster than slower 125Hz or 100MHz PS/2, and in fact PS/2 offers more stable latency because it doesn't reduce CPU capacity when the CPU is busy (it can handle at least 17% of its power).
Keep the high polling rate on your mouse where pointer delays are more obvious so CPU activity might actually matter
yeh, usb 2 supports up to 8k hz and the keyboards should function identically across different usb ports. i'm surprised they can market it as a usb 3.0 keyboard simply because it has a passthrough port that acts like a usb 3.0 connection. i tested some usb software through it and it stated the keyboard is actually usb 2.0, which seems to contradict the advertising on the box. it's clearly 1000hz polilng rate, and you can immediately notice this by plugging in a gaming keyboard and increasing its speed from 125hz to 500hz or even 1000hz. i think if you plan to use a 1000hz mouse, the 1000hz keyboards make up for it. that's why i was thinking about looking for a laptop with a good keyboard, since surprisingly enough, even with gpus now, they still expect you to use an external keyboard and mouse. this is just absurd.
