Hello, I didn't conduct much research before buying these memory sticks on eBay yesterday for a good price ($20 shipping). I needed more memory capacity for my apps and VMs. Because I can't just use only two modules on my ASUS P8Z68-V due to the large heat sink fan, I chose the F3-12800CL10D models, which have slightly slower CAS/Memory timings compared to the two 4 GB units I'm currently using. I'm running the Blue G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series F3-12800CL8-4GBXM without any problems. I've been using my Intel Sandy Bridge I5-2500 at 4500 MHz overclocked, and it's been smooth since I built this system back in 2011. The stock overboost is 3700 MHz. It runs perfectly and I'm hoping to upgrade to the F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL16GB without issues. The Blue ones at 800 MHz are also working well with my overclock settings. Do you think there might be any compatibility issues with my overclocked setup using the slightly slower 2x8GB modules I just purchased? Thanks for any suggestions and here are some screenshots of my current RAM units. I'm also planning to start gaming again after a long break since I just bought a 1070 GTX to replace my 680 GTX. Thanks for your help!

Combining memory often brings uncertainty about its performance. It might succeed or fail. If it does, it will generally run at the pace of whatever memory you have set up. Adjusting mixed memory can be challenging and may lead to disappointment.

Thank you for your response. I won't be installing the current two 4GB modules since I can only use two slots on my motherboard. I would have purchased two additional 4GB F3-12800CL8-4GBXM units if the CPU heat sink wouldn't interfere. My setup will only include the F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL16GB (two 8GB modules).

Is the heatsink blocking the memory slot (common on older motherboards) or is the fan obstructing it? If only the fan is the issue, you can gently move it away from the memory slot (provided your case allows) to ensure proper access. It shouldn't significantly impact cooling performance and might just appear out of place.

Thanks for sharing that information! I wish I had done more research before making the purchase of those two 8GB F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL16GB modules. It turns out I could have gotten the same Blue 8GB modules, F3-12800CL8, for a similar or even lower price. If the Red ones with slower speeds cause problems, I might need to try reselling them and buying the F3-12800CL8 units instead. I’m hoping there are no issues, but I’ll see how it turns out.

Good luck.
Considering the age of this old setup, it may be worth seriously exploring a more contemporary and efficient system. Just a thought.

Hey there. Totally get it. My old rig works fine and I can't afford any upgrades right now. The power supply was replaced about five years ago and everything's still running smoothly. This upgrade sounds like a great deal—16GB and the 1070 GTX would be awesome. I'm really excited to give this new or used card a try.

It may face challenges in numerous games (as you noted your interest in returning to gaming). Please keep this in mind.
