Hello, comparing these options: 7900X at $549.99, 5950X at $529.99, and 13700K for $399.99. You have a $50 gift card and plan to use the PC for gaming, graphic design, 3D work, and movie editing. The 13900K is priced at $619.99—consider saving more if you want that one.

I removed the 5950X from consideration. It's a strong chip overall, but it's the least efficient among the three options. Unless you were targeting a very budget motherboard, it would likely cost similar to the 13700K. The 13700K and 7900X have comparable performance; the main differences lie in price and power usage. If you're not purchasing from Micro Center, the 13700K offers better value—same performance at a lower cost. If you buy from Micro Center, they frequently have promotions on AM5 components (like free RAM with CPU purchase or discounts when bundled), making it potentially more affordable overall depending on your needs. Future upgrades and power efficiency will also influence the decision, especially as AM5 releases more powerful chips with lower energy consumption.

7900x fits into AM5 slots, which means it needs premium DDR5 RAM. Only high-end boards support this. The 5950x supports a 16-core Ryzen processor on AM4 platforms, allowing cheaper DDR4 options. You'll need a mid-to-high range board starting around $130+, though it draws about 160 watts max. Newer Intel chips like the 13700K and 13900K work with either DDR4 or DDR5—choose one. For top performance, use a Z690/Z790 motherboard, which costs more but delivers better cooling. The 13700K and 13900K offer higher cores (24 or 32 threads) and are ideal for demanding tasks. To get the best speed, pair them with a high-end water cooler since these CPUs push temperatures close to limits. The 5950x reaches around 160 watts, so cooling is essential. The 7th generation can go up to 200-230 watts, while Intel chips often hit 300 watts or more. Performance on the 5950x might lag compared to newer models when using DDR4 or basic coolers, especially if you stick with Windows 11. If power use isn’t a priority and you want stability, go with the 5950x on a B550/X570 motherboard and pair it with an affordable 3600MHz DDR4 for Windows 10 compatibility.

No specific restrictions are mentioned about using Windows 10 with Raptor Lake or Zen 4 processors.

This works on Windows 10, though performance may be lower on Windows 11. Windows 10 sometimes struggles with multi-core processors, often assigning application threads to incorrect core types, which can reduce efficiency for certain programs.

The 5950x is confirmed, strongly suggesting a 13,700k price point, though you’d need to change to w11.
