Hello, it's been a long time since I upgraded my PC, but yesterday was special. Here are my details: -12700k RAM, 32GB Corsair Dominator, H150i Elite Capilex cooler, Corsair 4000x case. This is the first time I've used liquid cooling, so I'm unsure what thermal performance to expect. I ran a Cinebench multi-threaded test to simulate the worst-case scenario. My temps peaked at around 88°C, and the package temperature was even higher during the test. Isn't that quite high for this configuration? I checked some reviews and noticed people reporting temps between 70-78°C. Thanks!
88c is acceptable, I’ll aim for over 90c to feel better, 105c might be risky, and 115-120c could be dangerous. Consider undervolting—try 1.25v with 4.9 or 5ghz on the P cores. Since the RAM you used was DDR5, it’s likely no real benefit over DDR4 at this point, so go with it.
It seems like you're questioning the value of Dominator rams since cheaper alternatives exist. Many 3200 cl14 kits already include them, so they might not be necessary.
I checked the motherboard settings and applied optimized defaults, yet kept the XMP 1 profile for memory. After running a Cinebench test, performance improved significantly, maintaining temperatures between 78°C and 80°C at the highest speeds. Additionally, I didn’t notice much variation in frequency across all cores during the test.
Thanks a lot, it's still quite expensive but at least they're still good. Best to push them as much as possible since these B-dies are excellent at overclocking. Boosting RAM is essentially a free performance increase because it doesn't drain power like CPU overclocking does. A 3800 CL14 should work if you're not too afraid of pushing the limits and using the right voltage type. I recommend checking out Buildzoid videos on B-die overclocking to see what you can expect.
