For Christmas this year, I received a memory kit similar to the one already in my PC, but it isn't functioning properly. The G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2x8GB, 3200 MHz, 16-18-18-38. The main difference I notice is the original model was made in September 2020 while this one came in November 2020. When I connected it, it started working fine before enabling XMP/DOCP or adjusting the speed manually. However, once I activated XMP or tried to set it to the advertised speed, it would either boot into Windows first or begin looping, requiring a CMOS reset to restore the original speed. I've tested the new kit alone and it performs well. I've experimented with placing the old model in slots A2/B2 and the new one in A1/B1, as well as swapping positions. There seems to be a concern that my CPU might not support running 4x8GB at that speed. According to the manual, the motherboard supports up to 2667 channels per slot for Summit Ridge. If I could overclock to around 2667 plus a few MHz, would it be better to run 16GB at 3200 or 32GB at 2667 for gaming, especially for Chrome usage? Also, considering the Ryzen 7 2700X and Asrock X470 Gaming K4, I'm thinking about the trade-offs between capacity and performance.
Identify the DRAM supplier by using CPU-Z, navigating to the SPD section, and testing memory modules. My system performs a similar process when attempting to activate XMP with multiple RAM sticks, opting for 32GB at 2400 MHz instead of 16GB at 3200 MHz.
