Hey everyone. In our home we need a few routers to cover all rooms. We currently have two Asus ZenWiFi XT8 devices in AiMesh—one connected directly to the modem, another via MoCA. I’ve also installed an older Asus router (AC66U) in AP mode through MoCA, linked to the ZenWiFi AiMesh network. Two quick questions: 1) Did you configure the AC66U with the same SSID and password as the AiMesh network? Should it have its own name or just match the main network? This area is mainly used by my parents who aren’t very tech-savvy, so I want it to work smoothly without needing manual reconnections. 2) The AiMesh system supports Wi-Fi 6, but the AP only runs Wi-Fi 5. How will you know when a device switches to the AP and if this happens automatically?

Security settings will match those used for your other WiFi transmissions, but each channel will be unique and separate for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This adjustment will occur automatically based on the client device. To assist clients, ensure powerful AP signals aren’t too close to one another, as this can cause interference. If needed, lower the output on individual antennas. If the stronger signal is already weak, the client should naturally switch to it without further action.
