Initiating boot from BIOS settings
Initiating boot from BIOS settings
I've encountered a challenging situation and haven't seen any improvement after more than an hour of effort. I'm really trying to figure this out, but everything feels stuck. This is my main work build PC, and I haven't made any hardware or software updates in a long time—about two weeks have passed. The system started acting odd: slow mouse movement, no CPU spikes, programs failing to launch after closing. I couldn't access Task Manager, so I powered it off and then turned it back on. Now it only boots via BIOS. I tried flashing the BIOS from an SSD file I had a few weeks ago, but nothing changed. I ran m-flash and confirmed both SSD partitions and USB are readable. After flashing, Windows 10 USB didn't boot either; the F11 menu only displayed the USB key, not the SSD. The machine runs Windows 11 with an I9 processor, 10850k RAM, 32GB DDR4, a Samsung M.2 10TB drive, and an RTX 3090 graphics card. It's connected to Wi-Fi and has gaming features enabled.
You're encountering issues loading Windows only through the BIOS and facing a specific error when attempting to boot from USB. The exact error messages depend on your system, but typically you might see something like:
- **BIOS Load Error:** "Error 0x80070005" (Windows 10/11) or similar, indicating a failure to load the operating system.
- **USB Boot Failure:** "Device not recognized" or "Failed to boot from USB drive."
These errors suggest problems with the BIOS configuration or USB hardware.
I believed USB startup wasn't functioning properly, leading me to suspect a more serious problem. After using a Windows 10 installation key, it turned out to be a Windows 7 key, which isn't UEFI and shouldn't boot. I'm now creating a Windows 11 USB key, and if it works, it suggests a drive or boot sector issue. Any advice on a bootable NVMe tester from USB?
Updated last, couldn't manage squat with the SSD. Went to Best Buy to purchase a new 980, and Windows setup went smoothly. The failed drive seems to be the issue.
