Initiate rescue mode for GRUB installation.
I tested Linux Mint yesterday and didn’t like it much. I installed it using dualboot, but after wanting to switch back to Windows, I deleted the Linux partitions on my drive. After rebooting, I still accessed Windows. The next day, when I started up, I entered GRUB rescue mode. I attempted several fixes: set boot to (hd0,msdos1), configured prefix, and tried bootrec /fixboot. It kept showing an error about unknown filesystem. On the second try, I made a Windows USB boot drive appear at the GRUB prompt and proceeded with the repair. Now I’m attempting a fresh Linux Mint installation from scratch, which seems to be working well so far.
I resolved the issue by reinstalling Linux Mint, deleting my second hard drive, and setting up an NTFS partition for Windows on my SSD. Then I used the Windows Media Creation Tool once more to boot into Windows. After the Windows installation, I reinstalled my HDD. I’m glad I had my files backed up.
