Initial thoughts on Windows 10 from a Mac perspective.
Windows 10 initial thoughts. I brought out my Windows laptop—rough specs, but I installed Windows 10. You know, I’m a Mac user. < Call me crazy, whatever you say. Since the Leopard version loaded into the OS: wow… starting up is terrible. It took about five minutes to open anything I clicked on. That’s a late-2014 machine, and I’m used to my Mac restarting quickly. The apps I had ready were instant. Maybe I’m lucky. Edge: Well, editing a webpage and sharing it with friends feels great. I give it a solid 10/10. I really dislike Bing, and I hate everything else. It’s so slow. I know it’s the browser because Chrome opened fast—like Speedy Gonzalez. I also love that when I open a new tab, ten pop-ups appear. And I hate how it doesn’t predict what you’re typing. It feels like Internet Explorer with a new name. Slow and annoying. Mission Control? Whatever it is. Congratulations, Windows user! You’ve got a cool Mac feature—something we’ve had for ages! Do you enjoy multiple desktops? I think so! I guess I’m being biased, but it’s hard to stay neutral. Action Center: Keep in mind, I’ve tried Windows 10 for an hour, so I’ll get better details later, but this reminds me of the Mac Notification Center. Very clever. Start Menu: Honestly, I appreciate the Windows 8.1 menu, but this one combines the best of 7 and 8 into one. Gaming: I ran some light tests with Minecraft, Counter Strike, Call of Duty, etc., and noticed a slight slowdown. I’ll investigate further and come back. Final thought: My first impressions aren’t great. I’m hoping things improve as I use it more over the next few days. I won’t say anything that might tempt me to switch from Mac to Windows—but it’s nice to try another OS for once! Do you think most people have PCs or just a few? Either way, I’ll update you soon, and maybe not too much!
I believe the update caused an issue since you mentioned a slow loading time and Edge being sluggish, though in reality it performs better than Chrome. The problem lies elsewhere, not with the browser speed.
It's not such a big deal... and you're asking about the slow computer. I use an MBP, but if I run a Windows 10 VM on it, it boots up in under a minute, just like with any other machine I own. Every operating system has its ups and downs... take a look at what Mac did with Yosemite—many new features are already in Windows for a long time, so don't dismiss that. My desktop is way faster than Mac when it comes to starting up...
I own both PC and Mac, and I enjoy both. But honestly, Win 10 was a bit disappointing for me (driver problems). The same goes for the older MacBooks on Yosemite—also not great.
I often tell this to folks, just like watching them as test subjects.
It seems you're not seeing Windows 10 perform as expected on your machine. There appears to be an issue with the installation, making it slower compared to Windows 7.
