Hi everyone, a friend encountered a problem... His PC takes five minutes to boot up and show the Windows logo, even after a reboot or when it’s off for a few minutes. Since the machine is nearly eight years old, he replaced the BIOS battery and reset it, hoping that would fix it, but today it still happens. I’m unsure where to begin troubleshooting. I think updating the BIOS might help, but the issue persists on another system. Thanks for any advice you can offer. Right now, I know the system is an Intel i5 2500k with an MSI motherboard.

It seems like you're considering a BIOS update as a solution. You might also want to explore the BIOS options and check if any settings could prevent the system from starting properly.

It seems there might be some defective USB devices present. The more connections there are, the slower the BIOS starts up.

I started by disconnecting all USB devices. However, since this only occurs once daily, it's hard to diagnose the issue. I think I'll attempt a BIOS update. Thanks!

I experienced a comparable problem earlier. It might have been due to an unusual configuration; surprisingly, a quick startup appeared to slow down the process.

It might be a malfunctioning mechanical HDD that the BIOS isn't recognizing correctly, leading to the POST hang. Try removing all drives except the Windows boot disk and check if the issue resolves.

Could the memory problem stem from RAM? The BIOS might take a long time to run a memcheck after a cold start because it saves cached data while power is present. This issue could appear only on a cold boot since the PSU stops providing standby power at that point.

Consider it a faulty hard drive. Launch the command prompt and run "chkdsk". Then attempt a disk defragmentation.
