Hi, I recently assembled my first PC around six months ago using an R3 1200. After some gaming sessions, I decided to attempt overclocking. Through extensive research and watching tutorials, I aimed for a starting frequency of 3.8ghz and 1.3v. Everything started working properly, but when I ran Prime95 it reached temperatures above 90 degrees. I cleaned the CPU cooler with an air duster, thinking it wouldn't affect performance. After retesting at the same settings, the temperature climbed to 86 degrees. I reduced the voltages and managed to get it down to 1.225v. I ran an Intel burn test, which passed all 20 tests with a maximum temperature of 67 degrees. Currently, I'm running Prime95 for two hours and the peak temperature is 76 degrees. Is it typical to see such low voltages? Should I consider lowering them further or try a higher frequency of 3.9ghz? Also, is 1.3v at 86 degrees still acceptable? It seems a bit unusual that many recommend higher voltages for this model. The specs mention an ASROCK B450M PRO4 RX570 GPU, 8GB Ballistic RAM, and TIAA memory.

Typically the voltage you configure in BIOS differs from the actual voltage the CPU gets because of LLC configurations and other automatic settings that alter the output. Use HWiNFO, enable "sensors-only," and open it to view the vCore under load—skip any VID voltage readings.

I started with a 1200 before. I encountered the worst silicon available and needed to set the voltage at 1.425 with the highest cooler my case could handle, just to hit 3.95 GHz.

I was just beginning to explore LLC yesterday and still not fully grasping all the offset settings. I plan to download Hwinfo after the prime has completed a bit more. My hwmonitor and cpuz.hwmonitor both show vid as 1.200 and core voltage as 1.200.

They could be right, but I wouldn’t rely on these numbers. HWMonitor isn’t trustworthy and lacks solid hardware support; CPU-Z is too simple for accurate voltage readings. The best choice would be HWiNFO. VID reflects what the CPU reports, not what it actually gets. When you begin overclocking, VID becomes less useful. vCore shows the real voltage the CPU receives. To grasp how each LLC setting works, experiment yourself—different boards behave differently. LLC stands for Load-Line Calibration, it adjusts for voltage changes during idle and load. You want it to stay gentle, not overly aggressive. Aim for minimal voltage swings in both idle and load conditions. The optimal value will emerge after testing all options. For higher overclocks, the behavior might shift, so revisiting LLC settings could be necessary. Values between 20-30mV (0.02–0.03V) are generally acceptable, though lower is preferable. In certain cases you might need a more aggressive setting, but that’s not your main concern here.

I retrieved Hwinfo Idle Core voltage specifications including 1.212 Soc, 0.887 Core vid, 1.225 Prime95 load, 1.187 Soc, and 0.887 Core vid again.

I've successfully reduced it further. I'm beginning to suspect there might be an error in my approach. Could you review the image below? Please confirm if it's correctly labeled as VID.
