Hello everyone, I recently watched Linus' beginner tutorial and used various materials to assemble a PC. I chose the ROG STRIX B850-I motherboard and faced some issues with the M.2 SSD installation because of its heat sinks and different fastening methods (Q-Latch versus screw). Although I believed I did it right, it didn't appear in the BIOS when I tried to boot my system (everything else functioning fine). After several attempts and failures to recognize it properly, I decided to try placing it in the back port, which succeeded! Now that I'm using the PC, I've noticed my download speeds are noticeably slower than expected. I'm curious—did this slowdown happen because I installed the SSD in the secondary (back) port? I'm tired of disassembling my build just to reinstall, but the only guidance I found online comes from people who install multiple SSDs. For clarity, I'm using a SAMSUNG 970 EVO SSD 1TB.

What download rates are you referring to? If this concerns internet downloads, any NVMe drive should exceed your speed even with gigabit connections. Regarding where to place your NVMe unit, your SSD is Gen 3.0, so it should fit in any port without significantly affecting transfer performance. You can consult your motherboard's documentation to find the compatible slot. Good luck!
