Hey everyone, just a quick update. I already mentioned this in the troubleshooting section, but I’m not getting any replies and it disappears quickly when I scroll. My first build has been problematic. I tried installing Windows 8.1 from Disk, but everything kept failing. At first, I couldn’t get into BIOS because of Q Code errors on the motherboard. Eventually, I managed to boot and it would crash with a warning about PC issues before restarting. After several attempts, it did install properly using my verification code, needing a restart afterward. Now every time I see that message—“The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed”—it pops up around 40 times. I’m unsure what to do next. BIOS looks fine and is set to default except for the CPU fan speed, which is maxed out (a known issue with the GTX 100i per the Corsair forum). During restarts, I can’t access BIOS unless I power off completely—just the power button, not a one-time fix. Any advice would be super helpful. Thanks, Lewis.

I would install a bootable diagnostic program and perform an extensive check. Frequent restarts and failures usually point to faulty memory. Review the motherboard guide to confirm compatibility with single-memory operation, testing each individually to identify the defective unit. Alternatively, you could attempt booting using one memory at a time to assess stability differences.

On the identical error screen press SHIFT+F10 to launch a command prompt. Type "regedit" and press ENTER. Go to "HKEY Local machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion". When it appears, select "childcompletion". On the right side, verify setup.exe is set to 1, change it to 3, then close regedit and cmd.

This number indicates success for the first attempt. It means the process functioned correctly this time. Previously, it likely failed due to technical issues or incorrect parameters.

It simply instructs Windows Setup to halt driver checks and let you complete all installations once you start using Windows, so everything should work smoothly.
