Initial overclock attempt requires guidance!
About to attempt my first overclock, the issue is my PC is having trouble with Player Unkown: Battlegrounds. It seems the beta isn’t utilizing the GPU properly and is mostly CPU-intensive.
Asus P8P61-PRO
Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz
Hyper V 212 CPU Cooler
Is this setup suitable? From what I’ve heard, the cooler should work fine.
What speed recommendations exist? I don’t want to push it too high and risk damage later.
My son's 2600k is running at 4.8 Ghz for more than six years (max core = 75C/ w/ Thermalright Silver Arow). I don't have a BIOS list since he installed new drives recently. The Hyper 212 is a solid cooler focusing on the last three points. It's a decent option for its price, but not top-tier in the best systems. For top performance, consider NH-D-15, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Phanteks PH-TC14PE... skip CLCs.
For overclocking tips, check the Sandy bridge threads on overclock.net. One link below:

JackNaylorPE shared his experience with his son's 2600k processor running at 4.8 Ghz for over six years, noting the thermal protection features. He mentioned the Hyper 212 as a solid choice, highlighting its performance in the final three words. He advised against using CLCs and suggested better options like NH-D-15, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, or PH-TC14PE for top performance. For overclocking tips, he recommended checking the threads on overclock.net. He also mentioned a patch that could resolve his issue and expressed confidence in future upgrades, despite concerns about wear from overclocking. The question about cooler alternatives was addressed.
