Initial attempt at overclocking, need assistance!
Hey there!
Just got an i5 4690k in and it’s running really well thanks to the Cooler Master hyper 212 evo cooling solution. I opted for the Arctic Cooling MX-4 4g Thermal Compound instead of a dedicated cooler master. My setup includes one front intake fan and one rear exhaust fan. I think the airflow through the system is decent right now, but I might consider swapping in a top exhaust fan soon. The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte Z97P-D3. I’m pretty sure the BIOS is up to date with the F8 update that’s currently installed.
Here are my specs:
- Gigabyte Z97P-D3
- Intel i5 4690k @ 3.50GHz
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo cooler
- Corsair CX500w PSU (not great, but I know it)
- ASUS GTX 750 Ti (old and outdated)
Current temperatures:
Ambient: 22°C
Idle: 30°C ± 2°C
100% Load: 51°C
I’m aiming for a 4GHz overclock, possibly even pushing to 4.1GHz. But I’m sticking with the standard 4 as a safe bet.
Any advice would be appreciated—whether it’s a tutorial link, warnings, or tips. Or if you’ve got a similar rig and done some overclocking, any experience would be great! Thanks!
Avoid getting too excited and damaging your CPU, which is unlikely to happen. When overclocking, proceed cautiously and test each adjustment to ensure stability.
