First time trying to overclock the CPU, I'm a beginner. I set my i7 8700k to 4.7GHz on all cores with a voltage of 1.280. I don’t know the temperatures yet—am I doing something right or wrong?

The temperatures you're experiencing are approximately suitable. The CPU cooler you're using works adequately, though it isn't ideal for overclocking. The AIDA64 stability test places a moderate strain on the CPU. Regarding vcore, your setup isn't too poor. I opted for a 4.9GHz at 1.278v on my 8700K for continuous overclocking with a Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 motherboard (LLC High and adaptive). However, I've removed the 8700K and installed a 360mm AIO, which keeps temperatures very low and prevents direct comparison. The highest recorded temperature during stability testing is 68 degrees.

I notice maximum temperatures in the mid-80s, which isn't great. Unless it's tough to keep FPS steady on a 144 Hz display with at least a 1080Ti or 2080, I'm not confident those temps would be normal.
(How did you achieve 4.7 GHz on all-core? Just turning on MCE, probably? Leave the rest auto/default except for XMP/3200 MHz, and recheck)

I have turned off MCE, set CPU core ratio to 47, adjusted CPU Vcore loadline calibration to Turbo, configured Core Current limit at 255 amps, enabled RAM XMP profile at 3200MHz. That’s about it. I also have a 240Hz display paired with an RX 5700 XT, playing only Apex Legends on Very Low settings.

I recently reduced my Vcore from 1.280V to 1.250V and ran AIDA64 for 30 minutes. This is what happened.
