Hi,
I searched for a discussion thread about the older generation and this generation of CPUs. To sum up, I’m not a gamer, just using my PC for office work, YouTube, music, streaming, movies, and browsing the internet.
My current setup includes:
Asus H81M Plus – would have liked to have found an H97, but getting one from the UK was difficult
I3 - 4170
16GB RAM (DDR PC3200/1600)
Very old ENGT430 1GB nvideo PGU
PSU 500w
I’m planning to upgrade with an I7-4790 PCU and a Nvidia 1050 Ti GPU. I think this would suit my needs. I’ll never use a PC for gaming. If I ever get a new motherboard, I’d probably choose the H97 to add the extra 16GB RAM.

Your current setup isn't addressing your requirements effectively.

My GPU is already on its way out, so I’m inclined to upgrade a new model for the next release. Many experts here suggest that moving from an I3 to an I5 isn’t worth it right now. That makes sense in this case.

I can choose an I5 for about $15/£11 or an I7 for around $31/32/£25, so opting for the latter seemed reasonable.
