Hi
I own an Acer Aspire 3 laptop without a dedicated graphics card. It features one HDMI port and lacks USB C connections. My current configuration uses a two-monitor arrangement with a Plugable docking station and two Dell monitors. I’m planning to expand to a four-monitor home office setup.
I’m considering adding two more of these monitors, which are also Dell 27-inch, 2560 x 1440 models. There are a few possible paths:
1. Purchase a new desktop with a 4-port graphics card.
2. Invest in an external dock capable of supporting four monitors, possibly using DisplayLink hardware (since my current setup can’t handle multiple displays otherwise).
3. Explore upgrading my laptop’s graphics and port options.
Since I’m not focused on gaming or high-performance graphics, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you're not on the move, then I believe a desktop with a dedicated GPU offering four display outputs—or even a budget setup with an integrated GPU plus a discrete one to power four 2K panels—is the best path forward. That's how I see tackling the problem.

I’m curious about your laptop usage and why you require four panels.
I primarily work with Photoshop and InDesign, keeping things simple—no heavy 3D or video editing. I appreciate having a habit tracker like Toggl always running.
Typically, my setup looks like this:
Top right: Toggl open in a web browser
Top left: A 'study with me' YouTube video playing (it helps with focus)
Bottom left: Photoshop
Bottom right: InDesign, Illustrator or another Photoshop window/project

I see yo holding onto a beefy compact footprint desktop which is in turn hooked up to a multitude of displays. You can hold onto the laptop in the event you do need to go out and about. Have you thought about using a big 48-inch monitor where you can set up and adjust windows as needed?
Thanks for the idea Geofelt, but I’d like the multi-screen feature for simpler multi-task dragging between windows.
