The small team behind I-Novae Studios is launching a Kickstarter for their space battle game, Infinity: Battlescape (formerly Infinity: The Quest for Earth). Their project features highly detailed procedural generation, encompassing entire planets, moons, and gas giants within one vast solar system. Transitions between planetary and gas giant atmospheres are smooth and immersive. Players can land anywhere on a moon or planet's surface, fly low through valleys and canyons while engaging in dogfights or escaping. Dogfights can occur as you traverse planetary atmospheres or cloud layers of massive gas giants. The developer expresses enthusiasm for this concept but invites curiosity—explore Infinity: Battlescape yourself. Updates show the game is fully funded, with a pledge option now available via Indiegogo. The project is backed by a fully functional prototype, though not yet pre-alpha, and will see significant enhancements over the next two to three years. Expect deeper atmospheric effects, refined cockpits for various ships, and advanced physics like heating and plasma interactions. The game promises more detailed simulations and polished mechanics in the coming years. While it's early days, the team is committed, and the future looks promising for procedurally generated space adventures across multiple titles.

I’ve never closely tracked a Kickstarter project before. What impressed me was how a small team turned their idea into reality from scratch. This feels genuinely capable of offering that authentic space experience we’ve all been hoping for. Recently, many space games have depended on eye-catching visuals and clever promotion to attract players, but the I-Novae Engine’s capabilities and its potential for growth are what truly make this stand out.

I have additional queries regarding the dev's concepts for 'Bespin (Star Wars floating city) inspired floating factories in the cloud layers of gas giants'. How would we descend there, what conditions exist—pressure, storms, lightning—and how would docking work for resources? What experiences would ships face while moving between these cloud layers? As players navigate these gas giant strata, what challenges and sensations would be encountered? The combat scenarios between these layers will be unique. I’m eager to learn more.

New visuals highlight the recently introduced 'Mars-like' planet in the prototype. No pre-alpha materials exist yet. Two more years of focused work remain, with significant enhancements ahead. A massive solar system at 1:1 scale will feature numerous strategic locations where the three factions can compete for resources and territory. Enhanced effects will be added for both warp travel and atmospheric entry; prolonged exposure to high speeds in the atmosphere poses risks, though auto-assist appears to cut off warp drives before damage occurs. The devs suggest incorporating gas giant concepts like Bespin-style floating factories within cloud layers. Adjustments will be made for gravity and pressure impacts on vessels. After two more years of development, we anticipate richer experiences with these elements. "We aim to invest even more effort into making gas giants truly impressive," says the game developers. The cockpit will receive substantial refinement to accommodate a wide variety of ships. Atmospheric entry physics—such as heating and plasma behavior—will be implemented. If a ship’s cockpit sustains damage, a severe atmospheric landing could threaten hull integrity.

Moon's of Infinity: A Battlescape Engine Prototype (pre-alpha). Infinity: Battlescape features stunning visuals paired with calming piano melodies. Created by Planet Explorer (TARS).

The game caters to varied tastes. Battlescape isn't meant as a long-term content experience; it's built around skill and strategy. You engage because of the mechanics, not just for new items. The focus shifts from collecting loot to improving piloting skills and devising fresh tactics. It encourages teamwork with friends both during and between rounds, similar to classic board games like Risk or SETTLERS OF CATHON.

However, Flavien, the engine creator, has invested over a decade into Infinity and the I-Novae platform. He seems committed to ongoing development and releases updates regularly. The scale of these advancements will likely depend on the level of support and investment the project receives, much like other games.

Flavien (CTO/President & Cofounder) mentioned VR and controller compatibility in a recent interview. Scott Manley also shared insights in a longer video discussing the Infinity prototype, highlighting its space and planetary combat features.
