Wow... honestly, it was a surprise. Most people had already moved on, but if you really want to catch up, you can find summaries on YouTube or watch videos that break down what happened.
The story isn't that crucial I only played WOW around 2008 and from what I recall the gameplay didn't really hold my attention. All I remember is spending about 99% of my time moving around and only a tiny bit clicking the mouse to defeat enemies. Lol
I’d begin as a classic character like Nelf, a dwarf, gnome, or if needed, a human with mediocre animation. Explore Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, Cata, MoP, XXX (no worries about quality), and Legion. Each race feels distinct at first, but beyond the opening it blends into the general roster of the same faction. Expansions introduce unique races—Draenei, blood elves, death knights, and more—each with their own lore in dedicated zones. My 2cents Horde Melee - Undead Horde Caster - Troll (still berserk?) / Alliance Melee - Human/Nelf Caster - Gnome (Draenei healer!)
You might explore private servers to experience how the world and game felt in earlier versions. I was using vanilla, but I’m not sure what happened to my characters. Generally, vanilla is tough by design. The servers required players to pause between fights to recover, allowing them to manage the larger player base.
