I recently assembled a build featuring a 7700x processor paired with an Arctic Liquid Cooler II 360 AIO. My goal is quiet operation without needing to move the PC far from my desk. I’m considering custom fan curves via ASUS software so that case fans activate only when the CPU reaches 80°C, with a delay before they start spinning. This way, fans wouldn’t kick in unless I’m actively using intensive tasks for extended periods. Currently, I’ve set the CPU to -20V offset using BIOS PBO for better cooling; it was stable at 30°C but became unstable at 25°C. I lowered it to 20V just to ensure stability. In short, can I keep the CPU running hot at idle without risking damage? Edit: I’m running the pump at a steady 80% capacity on the AIO, which is silent, and the radiator keeps things around 55°C. During short tasks like downloading or installing software, it spikes to the 70s before dropping back. Ideally, fans should stay off unless a long workload occurs.
You don't need to stress too much about high temperatures. The chip handles itself and maintains a maximum of 95°C. If it gets too hot, lower it in the BIOS to around 85°C or similar. Another way to manage heat is by adjusting the maximum power transfer (PPT) to something like 125W instead of the stock 142W. This shouldn't affect gaming performance much and might slightly reduce multithreaded/all-core scores by about 5%. Regarding cooling, keep the pump speed at full capacity for optimal performance, but use case fans at a steady 40% speed for quiet operation. During high temperatures (around 80°C), you can increase fan speed to 70% if needed, though this may cause noise. For radiators, follow a curve: idle up to 20%, increase to 50% at 80°C, then 50% again at 70%—check if 80% keeps the system stable without excessive noise. On my 5900X, these settings work well, staying under 80°C and keeping noise below 40dB, especially with a 360mm watercooler.
Thank you for your input. Running r23 for ten minutes with hwinfo revealed the peak temperature reached was 94.1c on the CCD, though most readings were around 91c. The frequency varied between 5.225MHz and 5.325MHz across all cores. Voltage fluctuations stayed within 1.22 to 1.36.
