I aimed to modernize my Ryzen 7 2700X system from 2018 by swapping it with a Ryzen 9 5950X. I used the Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Ultra X470 board. Initially, I believed the upgrade would work smoothly. However, the shop advised against it, claiming the motherboard wouldn’t support the 5950X’s 105W TDP due to inferior VRM design. They also recommended replacing the board and installing a new cooler. Was this true? My purchase was from that same shop, which suggested a full rebuild. Should I hold off for a newer CPU release? Can the current motherboard handle an AM4 CPU with 105W TDP?

Through research, some conversations mention boards being noted for having reduced VRM specifications than claimed. It seems the product might not be flawless. However, when the maker advertises these details, it can be tough to accept they face frequent issues.
If this holds up and the original poster avoids heavy changes, I think a BIOS upgrade—something like the 5950X version—might fix it.
The maker will show all CPUs that work with the BIOS, but this mainly reflects AMD rather than the brand itself. Those processors will function. It doesn’t guarantee optimal performance. Saying the maker would inform them of issues is overly simplistic.

I'm not claiming the maker would disclose every CPU flaw. But if it appears, as you mentioned, it should function properly. Performance matters more than nothing, right? A Reddit member did their own testing three years back and labeled the OP's setup as "Lower End" after a big overclock. I hope that most users won't face problems if they're not pushing the system too hard.
