Operating on a Ryzen 2600 with 16GB RAM offers no advantage of adding another 16GB.

The overall feel of your computer would be a bit better. However, gaming performance wouldn’t change much. Unless you frequently edit files or work with 3D graphics.

Do you need a single 16GB stick or two 8GB sticks? How do you typically use your computer?

Unless you frequently observe low memory usage, any apparent benefit will likely be minimal.

Unlikely at all. Unless it’s 16GB in Windows, the extra won’t make much difference. He’ll handle it without any issues.

It's interesting, but the main point is whether 16GB will help you and we can't say for sure without your current usage. Based on what we know, video rendering might benefit from it... This information seems a bit vague so far. With how many people are doing video rendering now, it feels like a common joke or trend. Maybe soon we'll even have "Video Rendering Chairs" alongside gaming ones!

I just had some cash to waste. I think I’d spend it on my computer.

It's a decent opportunity to save, especially with the global health crisis and many closures happening
