Inconsistent frame rate drops across all titles roughly every 20 minutes
Hey guys, my spec: 4790k (with 212x) H97m-d3h G1 gaming 970 8gb ram SSD ANTEC HCG520W PSU (used for 5 years) I have this PC built 2 months ago and have been performing exceptionally well with the 970. However since last week I have experienced some random fps drop for 1 second for every 20mins (20mins is just a approximation, its totally random) I have used MSI afterburner to check, have seen the fps drop from 60 to 4x for 1 second then back to 60 it happens every 20 mins (not 20 mins every time but just a guess), and GPU/CPU usage is completely fine (no sudden 100% spike) it happens to games like witches 3, MGSV, mad max, League of legends, and even youtube video in 1080p 60fps........ For League of legends it drops from 120 to 8x fps. It is not a severe problem but sounds annoying and frustrating to me. CPU/GPU temperature is completely fine CPU: 41 on idle, max 65 while gaming GPU: never exceed 65 I am thinking whether it is my PSU causing this issue. my PSU is 5-year-old and I noticed some "click sound" from it few weeks ago (I'm 100% sure it comes from my PSU) Is it time to replace my old PSU? Thanks guys really appreciate your help
Your PC is undergoing a CM VX650 full modular upgrade. It’s normal to have some changes or adjustments during the process.
It could be a driver problem. Try using msi afterburner and verify that clock/memory speeds stay consistent. (I’m not sure of the exact issue for the 970, but on my GPU it’s 300 MHz clock and 150 MHz memory, down from 1000 MHz/1500.)
^ Just a note: The GTX 970 runs at 135/162Mhz when idle, and its clock speeds change slightly during different load levels.
Thank you for your response. I'll review the clock/memory speed. It seems unrelated to the driver, as reverting back to the 31/8 driver hasn't resolved the issue. (No clean install performed.)
this happens because in my country there are strict rules about purchasing EVGAs and XFXs.
I don't have access to real-time data about brands in your country. Could you clarify which country you're asking about? I can then provide information on available brands there.
