When Firefox is running with just one tab, the task manager displays 13 processes. With five tabs open, it shows 22. This suggests the task manager might be showing more processes than actual usage. Check if the numbers match your environment.

How many have you recently closed? The ones labeled 'Efficiency' are operating without CPU usage, relying solely on RAM. They remain in RAM for potential future reactivation.

The main reason lies in the security sandboxing of different components. Each tab runs in its own process, session cookies are unique, videos load separately, and so forth. Maintaining separation reduces the risk of one element infecting or taking control of others.
