In the bios settings, configure the shutdown procedure for the hot CPU.
Hi everyone,
How can I ensure the computer shuts down when the CPU gets too hot? Are there BIOS settings that handle this? I've adjusted some BIOS options to prevent the CPU from throttling above 50°C. I want to make sure nothing in BIOS stops the PC from turning off due to high temperatures.
My motherboard is an ASUS M5A78L USB 3, CPU fx8350, clock speed 4000-4200mhz.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks for the response! If I don't adjust any hardware settings, what temperature would the computer shut down at? Is this related to the CPU? According to the AMD site, the FX8350 shouldn't exceed 61°C, should the BIOS already know that? The FX8350 CPU will trigger a shutdown when it reaches about 85°C to 90°C. You should avoid letting the system get that hot. If you want the BIOS to handle the shutdown, you need to configure a maximum temperature.
The temperature at which the PC powers off depends on the hardware and settings, not just the CPU. The AMD site's guidance applies to specific models like the FX8350, but the BIOS would likely already have such limits in place.
