I was working with a data recovery tool called "TestDisk" and suspect I made a mistake by selecting the option for not being able to locate a drive. However, since then, every couple of days when I restart my PC, the D drive in Disk Management shows "new volume," and I assign it to D. This behavior is happening and I want to understand why it persists after turning off the computer. Can I change this so the drive remains labeled as D instead of reverting to just new volume?

Did you verify the drive's condition?
For example, the hard disk sentinel
https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php
and the Mini tool partition wizard for checking the file system
