Beyond removing third-party programs that launch at startup, I suspect AVG or another software might have disrupted one or more applications, leading to the issues you're experiencing. Outside of using a system restore—whose availability in XP is uncertain—I don’t see any other viable path besides reinstalling the operating system. If you have an old hard drive available, consider installing a fresh OS there and repeating the steps; this would help identify if the problem stems from the third-party apps.

It's not feasible. The PC had been running for over ten years, which means XP recovery is possible, but it usually fails to launch properly or appears as an empty screen. Appreciate the advice!

What is the storage capacity? Reducing the XP partition might allow a new copy to fit beside it. Provided the drive is okay.

It’s 40 gigabytes, which should be sufficient, though there are only around 14 options left.

It's not necessarily difficult to create a bootable DVD, though the process can vary depending on your system and tools used.

You successfully obtained a DVD with the burned XP installation. Everything is working properly now.
