Initially, some believed keeping the 2600X at its default setting and boosting to 4.25Ghz across a few cores was optimal. Today, after several years, could shifting to a full 4.0Ghz overclock on every core be sensible? With more games using multiple cores now, might it still be worthwhile?

The final choice about using an OC and configuration settings stays with you. I won’t try to sway it. I’ll focus on answering your next point: Yes, thanks to the rise of high-core CPUs and octocore devices, most current games can now utilize at least six cores, with many supporting up to eight.

The only certainty comes from testing within your usual games. I think you'd likely see varied outcomes. The all-core OC probably does better now compared to six years ago, though some titles still rely heavily on the main thread, where CPU might lag. It really depends on what kinds of games you play.

I changed from stock to 4Ghz at 1.29v. The device runs much cooler and quieter since it eliminates the big spikes to 1.45v in auto mode. I’m seeing the same average FPS in the Skull and Bones test. Curious though, how many cores does XFR increase at once?
