You're stuck at 19.9 due to Windows caching things it perceives. Background paging doesn't help games much, and even with advanced techniques, it's hard to notice for most people. This feels a bit extreme—like schizoposting. Though it's not expensive, saving $60 could buy you a tank of gas or a few nights out. In my experience, with 9.4GB in use, only about 6.6GB is actually stored, which Windows just keeps cached. In the most demanding games, usage stays around 14.8GB even with a few open browsers and smooth performance.
I mainly engage in memory-heavy activities such as playing Elden Ring, Warzone, Halo Ecto, using several cam softwares for NXT, Discord, Spotify, and Obs on Twitch while recording, or occasionally editing 4K videos. That’s just the tools I use—not something that runs automatically in the background.
It's rare to find someone so determined to explain their limited resources. Unless you're committed to staying updated on Windows, it's hard to see a real reason not to upgrade RAM when available. Why go with 8GB? Perhaps 4GB or even 2GB would suffice? After all, anything beyond the bare minimum seems unnecessary. Just relax and let the passionate keep going.
Games? Those are a waste. I mainly use a computer for other tasks now. Used to rely on Chrome tabs, but they’d reload often because the page file got stale. With less than 32GB, it’s not working well. You seem like the person who insisted on 8GB for gaming—he rarely used more than 80%. Paged data would be better if it were stored on the moon. If you’re a heavy user, I’ll give you the same advice I gave him: upgrade and prove me wrong. If I’m right, you’ll have to pay for my next outing.
