I mentioned earlier that a 3800X offers better performance compared to a binned 3700X. It likely allows for further overclocking and starts at a higher base frequency, which can increase slightly with temperature and power delivery (AMD Ryzen AutoOC). Choose the 3700X if the price gap is much larger than for the 3800X, but opt for the 3800X if cost isn’t significantly different. A Ryzen 9 3900X could be useful for video editing tasks—especially if it fits your budget—and ensure you have enough RAM based on project size and software requirements (16GB is sufficient for light editing, but 32GB or more may be better).
I own 32 gigabytes of RAM and might be working on HD or even 4K editing. The R9 model isn’t affordable, and I think it’s unnecessary for my setup. Currently I have an RX 580 and plan to upgrade it later, hoping new cards will drop in price. I’ll search for a decent deal on the 3800 but noticed its performance isn’t significantly better than the 3700.
