Improving performance while saving energy
Hey there! I have a quick question. I’m planning to overclock my 2600x. I’ve set a solid base speed, but when I switch the PC to power save mode, it doesn’t seem to affect power usage or cooling. The fans and noise levels also stay unchanged. In Task Manager, the clock speed doesn’t drop even with different power plans. Is there a way to fix this, or is this just how it works? Thanks, MB from Gigabyte Ax370 Gaming K5
I used a software-based approach to increase the processor speed.
You likely ran a utility such as Ryzen Master instead of BIOS. It's common to disable auto-downclocking for better stability during overclocking. Intel uses Speed Step, while AMD has its own term—check your CPU manual. Also, confirm if other BIOS settings affect Windows power plans; some CPUs aren't responsive to those changes.
