Hello, thanks for your message. Here’s a clearer version of your situation:

I live in an apartment with built-in cabling and all CAT5E connections. I'm getting into networking and learning as I go. I'm currently setting up my network and have a few doubts. In the computer room, I've connected two mini switches using daisy chaining. I intend to upgrade them to USW-Enterprise-8-PoE, possibly adding another switch later. This will link to either a Wi-Fi 6 or 7 Pro device, which is still uncertain.

I currently use an ASUS router in AP mode for basic Wi-Fi. I built my own router with guidance from Level 1 Tech. My plans include installing a 10GbE NIC, but I'm considering a 2.5GbE option for now—it would cost around $10-20 more. I also want to connect a Synology NAS to the same NIC.

I have two main questions:
1. Is my setup plan feasible?
2. Should I choose the Intel X550-T2 or the Intel X540-T2?

Thanks for your understanding.

Choose the x550-T2 for its ability to deliver 2.5/5 gigabit speeds along with 1 and 10 gigabit options. The x540 lacks built-in 2.5/5 gigabit support, resulting in inconsistent performance.
