Improvements for newer or older PCs
I'm transferring my mom's desktop since she switched to a Chromebook. It's an HP Pavilion p7-1534, a major upgrade from my Gateway E4610D. It comes fully stocked with an AMD A8-5500 APU, AMD Radeon HD 7560D graphics, and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. I'm not interested in buying a new motherboard, so could you suggest some upgrades? I think the best CPU is the AMD A10-5800K, but I'm not sure. Thanks ahead!
What are we trying to accomplish? Right now we have an old office computer that can run Minecraft, but the A10 won’t alter that. It’s just too outdated and low-end to handle any newer titles.
It varies based on your needs. For an office setup, upgrading isn't necessary. If you're playing games, maybe a better graphics card would help. I'm not sure about changing the CPU either.
Ram is the simplest upgrade, opt for 16gb. After that, install an SSD since you likely don’t have one yet—it offers a significant performance increase. For the GPU, consider an NVIDIA 1060. The maximum supported CPU is a Quad-Core A10-5800K, which would be a reasonable upgrade; the cost increase isn’t huge, especially since GPUs are still relatively affordable right now. Upgrade the rest and hold off on GPU prices until they drop.
