I currently have a poor Zyxel Emg2926 (free rental from my ISP) with extremely limited coverage. The signal strength is very weak, and the available speeds are only 120Mb down and 30Mb up—just what I have locally. I’m seeking significantly better range and a more stable connection. Occasionally the router fails completely, and after a factory reset by my ISP it works briefly again. With about 15 devices connected from different Google accounts—phones, tablets, TVs, smart home gadgets—I don’t need an external extender since the router is already overworked. Additionally, smart light switches and WiFi timers are running off the same router, which disrupted my pool system by not sending the shutdown signal. I’m aiming for a 2-story home needing stronger coverage and greater reliability, ideally around 100 CAD. I plan to contact my ISP but might be better off investing in a new setup and negotiating a lower bill to offset this free service. Thanks for your assistance!
More than fifteen connections are fine, but it’s not exhausting the system. Eight is too high for older routers. If you’re not interested in an industrial mesh router, consider creating zones. Set up a separate router system or two and connect all your switches and smart devices to them instead. It has some quirks but can boost connectivity. Things become tricky fast.
