Considering your Ryzen 5600X, gaming at 1440p could justify upgrading from DDR4 3600CL18 to 3600CL14. The trade-off is worth it if you need the new RAM urgently since you borrowed it and want it back soon. Upgrading to CL14 offers better performance for modern games, making the $90 investment worthwhile compared to the $70 for CL18.

Performance depends on more than just CAS latency or frequency. The DRAM chips and RAM arrangement also play a role.

I’m returning the RAM tonight, and once I’m back home from work he’ll meet me there. I don’t have time to run any tests. I need to order RAM so I can use my PC tomorrow—the only RAM I have is his.

I’d skip Corsair rams just to stay safe [due to the problems others are facing]. Among the choices, Patriot rams look like the most secure bet. Still, if GSKill Kit relies on real B die kits (which is odd since Samsung no longer makes them fully), there’s a chance it could overclock as much as Patriot.

Actually, that's incorrect—they no longer make OEM sticks with B die memory chips. Purchasing from sources like G.skill, Patriot, Corsair, TeamGroup, etc., means you'll get genuine B die chips that perform well despite the change.

G skill kit matches your specs. The 3200mhz 14-14-14-34 kit and the 3600mhz 14-16-16-36 kit are both available. The 4000mhz 16-16-16-36 kit is also an option at $90. No other kit needed.

I’d choose G.Skills. If you’re comfortable with two sets, I’d take that path and increase it. The advantage lies in speed, not just storage.
