Do you know ways to improve single-core performance on your Ryzen 5 1600? You're using an MSI x370 gaming pro carbon motherboard with V1.425 voltage at 3.9GHz, and you're aiming for better VR frames. Your GPU is an RTX 3070.

Only the best way to surpass what you already possess with your OC is to move to a 3600 or 5600x if your motherboard allows it. I’m running a 1600 at 3.9ghz and it feels sluggish in games that prioritize single-threaded performance—like FF14, where it drops to 35-40fps in demanding sections. I upgraded my main system just to retire that CPU. The first generation was fine for early battles, but it never delivered top-tier speed.

Only the best way to surpass what you already possess with your OC is to move to a 3600 or 5600x if your motherboard allows it. I’m running a 1600 at 3.9ghz and it feels sluggish in games that prioritize single-threaded performance—like FF14, where it drops to 35-40fps in demanding sections. I upgraded my main system just to retire that CPU. The first generation was fine for early battles, but it never delivered top-tier speed.

That's really disappointing. I might end up spending around 500 CAD on a 5600x and then just switch to a 3800x since my GPU only supports the 3000 series.

Yeah, sorry my friend. You're already at the limit with the 1600 with a 3.9ghz OC - most have a hard time breaking the 4ghz barrier and also with memory above 2933. I tried for days to get 3200mhz on the memory, and it was never truly stable. Ended up downclocking to 2933 and it took 1.4v to get 3.9ghz stable. They're overclockable in that you can get them almost as good as the 1600x, but even then, it's Haswell-level performance at best. After watching HUB's Nvidia CPU overhead video, you'll want to get a 5600x over a 3600 if you can. But that's in DX12, not sure about DX11 or whatever VR uses.
