I’m organizing a 3090/5950x configuration and have everything except the processor (expected in a week or two) and the memory selection finalized. Right now I’m evaluating three 64GB G.Skill kits: four 16GB units at 3600MHz, one 14GB at 3600MHz, and another 14GB at 1400MHz. I’m still deciding on the RAM type. My priority is the second option because it appears compatible with my motherboard (Dark Hero) in the QVL, while the third model seems outdated for that platform. It’s also a bit more affordable than the first choice. I’m curious about how much real gain CL14 RAM with tighter timings would bring compared to CL16 at the same speeds and XMP/DOCP settings. Most information I’ve seen focuses on Zen 2 or compares similar models, making it hard to gauge the exact impact of latency improvements. Additionally, I’m unsure whether running four 16GB sticks in a daisy chain will perform better than two 32GB sticks.
The QVL currently lacks a 3600 gskill 4x16 bundle. The available options are the CORSAIR CMT64GX4M4Z3600C16 (version 4.31) and the Hyper X HX436C18FB4K4/64.
This was my primary worry about opting for the faster kit—it was the balance between performance and stability at 64GB. I might prefer the CL16 instead, as it seems less prone to issues. The idea of pushing the build to get more speed is tempting, but I should have mentioned G.Skill's QVL earlier rather than Asus.
It's best to follow this list exactly as provided. Pay attention to the testing marks at the end of each line—four kits require the final dot. QVL matters more than you might think, especially when aiming for high-speed RAM configurations.
