My system includes an intel core 2 duo e7500 with 2.93 ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram at 800 mhz, nvidia gt 710 gddr3 2gb, and a 500 gb hdd. I plan to install a 250 gb ssd for booting and gaming. Currently running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, playing games such as assasins creed 3,4, gta 4, far cry 3, aiming for improved fps without high-end titles. After the ssd upgrade, should I switch to windows 10 or remain on windows 7? My main goal is better performance in games.

you won't notice significant improvements in fps from what i've observed. depending on the game and operating system, there might be a slight change, but it's unlikely to impact the overall performance. adjusting your installation settings can have a more noticeable effect. turning off unnecessary startup components and services will likely bring about some improvement. expect modest results rather than major gains.

Even after trimming your OS of whatever unnecessary things you don't need to run (and even then I'd argue that doesn't really improve things, since background tasks should have a negligible impact anyway), there's nothing more you can do. Software can't overcome hardware limitations.

The main constraint is not the operating system itself.
It could also be argued that using "Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit" might run slightly slower compared to Home versions (like Windows 7 or 10) because of the extra services it requires.

Checking which operating system provides higher FPS after upgrading to SSD is the question. Comparing Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 10.

don't mention it impacts FPS since my friend achieved 40 FPS in Linux while playing a game, but on Windows 10 he saw 30 to 35 FPS. He also has 4GB of RAM.

linux versus windows isn't just a simple comparison of versions like win 7 and win 10. such a comparison doesn't hold because there are significant differences between them.
an ssd can speed up loading times, but once that happens, it doesn't change the outcome. since the game runs in ram, an ssd won't affect fps or performance. it mainly reduces load time.

Windows 10 will not lower your game FPS on Windows 7.
